Message from The RI President

Dear fellow Rotarians and friends,

john Judy and I welcome you to this 2016-17 District Conference. This is a great opportunity for you to come together for fellowship and inspiration. Each district conference grants us the unique opportunity to come together to share ideas, make plans, and prepare for the future of Rotary.

Now is a critical and historical time for our organization-a tipping point, if you will. Not only must we increase membership, we must have a cultural shift; one that truly embraces the concepts of membership attraction and engagement, instead of terms like recruitment and retention. We need more caring hearts, willing hands, new ideas, and integrity to strengthen our clubs. There is a potential Rotarian in anyone who cares about their community and strives to make the world a better place.

There is plenty of work to be done this year. Now is the time to capitalize on our successes and catapult Rotary towards becoming an even greater force of good in the world. We must continue to make significant progress in the fight against polio. In the last few years, we have reached significant milestones and the disease is now endemic in only two countries. But we’re not done yet, which is why I ask that you and your fellow Rotarians continue to put polio front and center, until the work is done and we have fulfilled our promise of a polio-free world.

I hope this is a motivating and productive district conference and wish you all the best. Our founder Paul Harris once said, “The power of combined effort has no limitations.” Together, we will continue to provide extraordinary service to communities around the world and add another successful year to the legacy of Rotary Serving Humanity.

Sincerely,

John F. Germ

President, Rotary International 2016-17
